Paprika Drying Pepper Hungarian Heirloom (30 Seeds)
In most cases, spices are hard to grow yourself since they often come from tropical trees (eg. cinnamon or nutmeg). But paprika is an exception and is easy to make! This variety of pepper has sweet, dry flesh that dehydrates very rapidly and grinds up into a mild powder. Plants grow just like bell peppers and are very productive. Pick fruits after they are fully red. They are best immediately split open and placed by a fan where they dry successfully without the heat of a dehydrator. They also keep fresh for a couple weeks without spoilage. For best results, you may want to stake plants and provide consistent watering as they can sometimes get blossom end rot from uneven watering or sunscald from plants flopping over or peppers may rot if they touch the ground. Dried fruits can be ground into flakes in a blender or food processor before being powdered in a seed/coffee grinder. Flavor is sweeter than store-bought paprika and delicious. Of course dried fruits could also be placed in a cool smoker to create an even tastier smoked paprika.70 days from transplant to mature fruit. Seeds produced in Morgantown, WV.
